Laird grew up an “army brat” and moved to Canaan Valley, West Virginia from Colorado, in 1983. In 2005, he transplanted himself to Morgantown after he met and married his wife, Barbara. He now has three grown step-kids and three (now college-age) teens that he and wife adopted in 2009.

Laird is a former Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow. In his former career as a professional mountain bike race promoter, Laird was West Virginia Tourism’s Person-of-the-Year in 2001 and, in 2002, Laird was inducted into The Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. Laird coaches in the newly formed WV high school mountain bike racing league. He also loves to cross country ski, kayak, rock climb and play soccer.
